Guidelines for Dictionary Comments

Registered users may comment on terms and quotes in the Commens Dictionary. Comments may added on term or quote pages where the following icon is visible: . To add a comment referring to a specific quote, the user can either use the toolbar visible on hovering over the quote in question on the term page or visit the quote page. Comments are visible on term pages; if a comment refers to a specific quote, it will also be visible on the page of the quote in question. A list of all user comments is available on the Comments page.


The following rules and recommendations apply to comments:

  • Comments must be relevant, pertaining to the Dictionary content in question
  • Comments are published immediately and are publicly available; users should not post private thoughts or messages in the comments
  • Comments can include discussion of the content in question; replies are allowed
  • Comments can contain suggestions and corrections, but users are encouraged to report errors directly to the editors
  • Profanity is not allowed
  • Libelous or offensive comments are not allowed
  • The editors have the right to remove any comments that do not follow these guidelines
