Abstract:
The article focuses on the book "A Pragmatist Philosophy of Democracy" by Robert Talisse and its proposal of a new pragmatist theory on democracy. It states that Talisse suggests John Rawls's theory on democracy is not sufficiently substantive despite allowing for reasonable pluralism, while John Dewey's pragmatist theory concerning democracy is too substantive from a metaphysical, normative, and epistemic view and fails to allow for reasonable pluralism. It comments that Talisse's proposal is based on Charles Peirce's theory of pragmatism, and argues that Peirce's theory is as substantive in all three areas and would fail to accommodate reasonable pluralism as defined by Talisse.
